The nurse prescribers an minor illness nurses run minor illness clinics daily throughout the week.We have four such nurses. It may be that your condition can be dealt with by the nurses who are qualified to deal with problems such as abdominal pain, bites and stings, cystitis, diarrhoea and vomiting, earache, emergency contraception, eye problems, hay fever, infected wounds, injuries, rashes, vaginal discharge, chest infections, back/knee/joint pain, impetigo, headaches, heartburn, rhinitis, sinusitis and other nasal problems, sore throats, tonsillitis and many more.
Please tell the receptionist that you would like to make an appointment with the nurse prescriber or minor illness nurse.
Practice nurses are available in the treatment room every morning and some evenings. You may make an appointment to see the nurse if you have a problem that does not require a doctor, such as dressings, injections before going abroad, blood pressure checks (we have two machines in our patient waiting areas for you to use at your convenience without the need for an appointment), cuts, ear syringing, and information about diet, alcohol or smoking.

Doctor and practice nurse - Friday morning and afternoon. Patients are asked to have their yearly blood test two weeks prior to appointment. An external specialist diabetic nurse sees patients at Moatfield Surgery to support them in taking control of their diabetes care.
Cervical screening reduces the risk of developing cervical cancer; it is not a test for diagnosing cervical cancer. It is a test to check the health of the cervix, which is the lower part of the womb (often called the neck of the womb). We offer the test to all women aged 26-64. This entails inviting women every 36 months in the age group 26-49 and every 60 months for women aged 50-64. Appointments should be made when the patient is mid-cycle of her menstrual period.
Midwife's antenatal clinic -Tuesday and Thursday.
The practice nurses hold heart clinics during the week. Please check with the receptionist for the days and times.
The doctors and health visitors perform development checks on children up to the age of 3. The health visitor will let you know when to attend.
Practice nurse -Thursday 9.30am - 12.30pm.
We offer a minor surgery service for many procedures, including ingrowing toenails, removal of warts, verrucae and other small lumps and bumps. Please make an appointment with your doctor to discuss this.
Medical examinations for special reasons eg employment, fitness to drive or insurance are not undertaken during routine surgery times. A special appointment may be made with the doctor and the receptionist will let you know the fee involved.
Held by practice nurses overseen by Dr Pasan. Patients on Warfarin therapy are monitored regularly and dosage changed accordingly using a finger-prick method of blood sampling and the result entered into a computer software decision support database. The patient has the convenience of a local service and a rapid assessment of INR and future dosage regime all within a 10-minute appointment. Patients must bring their yellow record book and let the clinic nurse know.
Hepatitis A & B ShortageThe practice has been notified by Public Health that there is a shortage in supply of the above. We are therefore unable to accept requests for Travel, Occupational Health or any other private requests until further notice.
Moatfield Surgery offers this service for the convenience of patients. The practice does not give a best price guarantee but applies charges to cover the cost of service delivery. Patients are advised to contact other providers to ensure an informed decision.
Please contact the surgery and consult the practice nurse at least eight weeks before you are due to travel for advice on vaccines and to book an appointment. There is a charge for some vaccines and vaccination certificates. The surgery has been approved by the Department of Health as a yellow fever vaccination centre.

It is important to make the initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
We encourage all of our patients to share the responsibility for their health, both in preventing disease and in treating existing disease. Prevention really is better than cure. Many of the more serious diseases can be prevented by a healthy lifestyle and without the need for drugs. Yes. If you are aged 65 years or over or you are at higher risk.
Everybody aged 65 and over should now be immunised to help protect them against pneumococcal infection which can cause diseases such as pneumonia, septicaemia (blood poisoning) and meningitis. Please phone Moatfield Surgery during September to make an appointment if the above applies to you.
