Stay Safe in the Hot Weather
Hot weather can affect anyone, but is a particular risk for vulnerable people, including;
- Older people
- Babies and young people
- People who are pregnant
- People who have serious long-term conditions such as; heart problems, breathing problems, dementia, diabetes and kidney disease.
- People who are on multiple medications, or medicines that may make them more likely to be badly affected by hot weather.
Tips to Beat The Heat...
Plan Ahead:
- Check the weather forecast and the news for weather alerts
- Plan ahead to avoid the heat
- Schedule activities for cooler times of the day
- Contact the Surgery if you feel you need to reschedule your appointment
Keep Yourself Cool:
- Drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol
- Wear sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses
- Cool your skin with water and slow down
Find Somewhere Cool:
- Close blinds and curtains during the day
- Go indoors or outdoors, wherever feels cooler
- Avoid closed spaces like stationary cars.
Be Safe:
- Be on the lookout for signs of heat related illness
- Look after yourself and check in with others
- Stay safe when swimming
- Get help. Call NHS 111 or in an emergency 999
