Stay Safe in the Hot Weather

Hot weather can affect anyone, but is a particular risk for vulnerable people, including;

  • Older people
  • Babies and young people
  • People who are pregnant
  • People who have serious long-term conditions such as; heart problems, breathing problems, dementia, diabetes and kidney disease. 
  • People who are on multiple medications, or medicines that may make them more likely to be badly affected by hot weather.

 


 

Tips to Beat The Heat...

Plan Ahead:

  • Check the weather forecast and the news for weather alerts
  • Plan ahead to avoid the heat
  • Schedule activities for cooler times of the day
    • Contact the Surgery if you feel you need to reschedule your appointment

Keep Yourself Cool:

  • Drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol
  • Wear sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses
  • Cool your skin with water and slow down

Find Somewhere Cool:

  • Close blinds and curtains during the day
  • Go indoors or outdoors, wherever feels cooler
  • Avoid closed spaces like stationary cars.

Be Safe:

  • Be on the lookout for signs of heat related illness
  • Look after yourself and check in with others
  • Stay safe when swimming
  • Get help. Call NHS 111 or in an emergency 999
